The Percona Live MySQL Conference & Expo 2013 happened last week in Santa Clara, and the major announcements in the MySQL space this year included:

  1. The announcement to launch MySQL 5.7 as a Developer Milestone Release. Download it, read the release notes, and refer to the manual. Tomas Ulin, Oracle’s VP of MySQL Engineering announced this and more at his keynote (video). Sheeri Cabral waxes lyrical about the hidden messages in the keynote.
  2. TokuDB goes opensource. If you are interested in fractal tree indexes, this is the engine for you to use. To add, TokuDB not only works with MySQL/MariaDB, it also works with MongoDB.
  3. Continuent Tungsten Replicator was mostly opensource, but now the capability to extract data in real-time from Oracle servers is also open.
  4. The MySQL Applier for Hadoop, using the binary log API of replication to stream data to HDFS has been announced as a labs release.
  5. SkySQL & Monty Program merge to create a stronger MariaDB/MySQL offering. The transaction was “mostly share based” according to the CEO, Patrik Sallner (FT).
